TwinERGY is on air!

We are happy to announce that the TwinERGY project has kicked off. By putting citizens at the heart of the energy market, we want to raise awareness about sustainable energy behaviours and consumption patterns with an unprecedented Digital Twin model. Get to know our plans!

Smart tech to optimise energy: TwinERGY’s Digital Twin

TwinERGY is recreating a first of its kind Demand Response Framework, a technological system that incorporates digital intelligence so that local energy communities can track their energy use and assume a more active role in the market. Specifically, the project is leveraged by a Digital Twin intelligence, a technology that consists of creating a digital replica of a physical object, service or process.  Connecting this asset with its Digital Twin enables testing new ideas or model scenarios in real time without interrupting the operations and users’ practices.

Nine use cases will prove that a greener energy system is possible, especially if all the implicated agents work together. E-vehicles, smart grids and wearable devices are some of the innovative tools and initiatives that the pilots are going to implement.

Four demo sites in four European regions

Citizens from Athens (Greece), Bristol (United Kingdom), Steinheim (Germany) and Sardinia (Italy) are going to work closely to change the way communities buy, experience and use energy. By using participatory and co-design methods, they will lead the energy of the future.

Could citizens start playing a more active role in the energy market if they were aware of the technical possibilities offered by the Digital Twin? The Bristol Pilot explores the role of the local authorities in the energy service and how to improve sustainable attitudes of energy use within communities. Moreover, the demo-site in Germany, situated in the village of Hagedorn, promotes the use of renewable energy to increase self-produced solar power and an active participation of neighbours in energy measures.

A flexible and sustainable energy grid entirely powered by renewable energy in Italy? Sure! It is being implemented in the Municipality of Benetutti, the first Smart Community of Sardinia. It addresses power fluctuation problems, while promoting residents’ participation. Finally, the pilot case in Athens adopts energy efficiency measures to drive energy and climate actions. Flexibility and consumer’s engagement in the process, help to develop the demo-site.

Who is behind TwinERGY?

We have just started, but we are already a family. The project embraces synergies and work of communities of eighteen partners from all around Europe: University of Patras, Stam S.R.L, Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe, University Nova Lisboa, IES R&D, Comune di Benetutti, University of Bristol, Knowle West Media Center, Suite 5, Grupo Etra, World Energy Consortium, MYTILINEOS, Bristol City Council, European Dynamics, Stadt Steinheim, Arthur’s Legal, SmartEn and Ideas for Change.

Keep posted, our journey has just begun!
